MECHANICALS

 

Turbo-charged Ford 6- cylinder diesel.

Borg Warnerr 3-1 gearbox.

Morse control.

2.5" stainless steel shaft with greasing unit.

Two greasing units, shaft and stern tube.

Propeller 34" x 20" phosphor bronze.

Fire extinguishers - three Chubb.

 

STEERING

 

Whitlock splined shafts and gearboxes to stainless steel rudder quadrant.

 

FUEL TANKS

 

Two purpose-made either side of engine. Capacity 60+ gallons each.

 

BALLAST

 

3 tons of pig iron - red oxided plus 3.5 tons of lead ingots.

 

TOWING HOOK

 

Reconditioned towing hook mounted on 0.25" deck plate supported by 1.5" x 0.25" angle lattice at 12" centres.

 

MAST

 

Purpose made in pine by Beverton of Midhurst.

 

FUNNEL

 

Purpose - made. Iron bands - galvanised sheet. Brass top strip fold down onto rest on mast tabernacle.

 

HATCHES

 

Two new hatch covers fitted.

 

ELECTRICS

 

Dual 24v system from four 12v 128 amp/hr batteries. Twin pole wiring and blocking diodes. Mains shore battery charger. Electrolux refrigerator in galley.

 

INSTRUMENTS

 

Engine Hours, Rev Counter, Oil Pressure, Log & Echo Sounder, Ship to Shore VHF Radio, Stereo Radio.

 

TOILET

Mechanical drawing and pipe fittings

Rheinstrom Y4 bronze toilet.

Made of saltwater-resistant gunmetal, screws, pistons, and valve are made of stainless steel.

Porcelain bowl, plastic seat and cover.

Heavy design with large hand pumps for fresh and waste water.

Fresh water 1, waste water 1, bilge 2.

 

CALOR GAS

 

Water heater for basin, sink and shower.

 

Ceramic wall heater.

 

Hob and oven.

WATER

 

Welded polypropolene fresh water tank - 55 gallons.

 

Waste water and soil tanks purpose-made.

 

GALLEY

 

Teak, formica and maple. Amtico floor.

 

MAIN CABIN

 

0.5" solid maple panelling / teak trim. Teak table and teak seating chest housing fold-out double bed. Teak light box.

 

AFT CABIN

 

Interior maple pannelled mahogany and teak trim. 2 single berths, each fitted along the port and starboard side.

 

WHEELHOUSE

 

Wheelhouse, louvre doors and consule made in teak. Steps (2) made in mahogany. All purpose built by Beverton of Midhurst.

Bare hull found derelict at Sunbury Creek.

 

Purchased from British Waterways 1978.

 

Rivetted iron hull 0.25" / 0.375", frames 14" centres.

 

No mechanicals - towed to Windsor Boats & slipped for one year.

 

All mechanical work and fitting out new 1979 - 1985 with exceptions, such as reconditioned 24v wipers - horn - semi rotary pump - deck vents - winch.

 

Hull shot blasted and power wire-brushed.

 

Inside - 4 coats red oxide. Outside - 7 coats to spec.

 

Anodes fitted.

 

Heavy brass portholes fitted (Ex Isle of Man Ferry SS Snaefell).
